As a student I heard the frustrations of patients traveling all over town seeing many “specialists” and experiencing confusion as to whether or not their doctors actually all had a consistent bigger “master plan” for their health.  I began to envision how the expansion of the alternative health field could result in a similar frustration for patients.  Naturopathic physicians are trained in all of the same “ologies” as allopathic physicians, AND study chiropractic, AND western botanicals, AND nutrition, AND massage, AND homeopathy.  They also have additional options for training in natural childbirth, Chinese medicine, and IV therapy! This of course results in graduates needing to choose their own areas of interest and expertise.  Thus a  patient may see more than one ND, or an ND and an acupuncturist, counselor, or chiropractor in addition to their MD!

Consequently  we have seen many clinics pop up offering “multidisciplinary” care.  After being part of several of these clinics I still felt as though something was missing.  I opened Vitalia to offer people the opportunity to experience true coordination of care, as explained below.

I am aware that many people pay out of pocket for alternative medicine and I want to thank them for making their health enough of a priority to do that.  What I can offer in return is an opportunity to have that be a better investment.  I believe all patients should know that their doctors are working together as a team; keeping what is in the best interest of their patient in mind by truly coordinating their care.  I have found a team of practitioners dedicated to this model.

At Vitalia the practitioners will meet at your request to discuss your health goals, at no additional cost to you.  This is done in the form of bimonthly clinical roundtables.  We want to make sure that we all understand the bigger picture for your health as well as the small steps needed to help you get there.  We also want to be assured that there is no redundancy in treatment; i.e. that you are not essentially paying for the same thing in different forms from different practitioners.

No one doctor or practitioner has all the answers to your health concerns.  Just as it takes a village to raise a child it takes a team to help you reclaim your health and the wholeness of your life.

There is no requirement to see more than one practitioner at Vitalia or to participate in this model.  It is simply here if you feel drawn to it.  Though I have searched for some of the Portland’s best practitioners you may not need their assistance or you may have someone else you already work with or who you feel you resonate better with.  We will still work to coordinate your care with them remotely.  Vitalia simply allows you to have a place where, if needed, you can see more than one practitioner in one visit to the clinic and rely on us to coordinate your care if you choose. We do not believe you should be the go-between for your doctors.  Your energy should be used for healing.

If you would like to see some of your other favorite practitioners here at Vitalia please let them know we would love to meet them.  Whether they are here or elsewhere we always want to team build with them.
